Poptropica is an online virtual world game owned by Pearson PLC, the global publishing and education company. Poptropica was made by Jeff Kinney, the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series. Poptropica is basically aimed at children ages 6-15. When you create a new avatar, the game will ask for your gender & age, as seen when you create a new player account. Then after you chose your gender and age, you can customize your player or change your name before entering Poptropica. Note: You cannot change your screen name after entering the game, or else you can create another account to get a different screen name. Players can go to different islands, chat with other users, battle in multiplayer games, and communicate with each other. Players are given quests, called islands, which they are encouraged to complete. Since February 4, 2012, Poptropica has an Alexa Internet rating of 1,302 in the United States, and a ranking of 5,162 in the world. Poptropica officially launched in September 2007. It has grown to have over 500 million registered users as of October 19, 2012. 35 million players of who are in the 6-15 age group. Poptropica is currently 9 years old since the game opened.
